CMA Product Tour
How do I login to my Wiley CMAexcel Course?
Speaker: This is a tutorial on how to log into your Wiley CMAexcel review program. First thing we want to do is go to www.efficientlearning.com. This is the Wiley Efficient Learning website. To begin with, we’re going to click on the login tab and this takes us to the login page.
We are returning users, that’s to the right here, which you want to use when logging in is the email that you used to purchase your product. I’m going to put my password in here. This is also the password that you used when creating your account and purchasing your product. Now, click on Login, this will take me to my product page.
This is where you’ll see the review course that you’ve purchased; in this case, the CMA Review Course Part 1 and 2. I’m going to start with Part 1, I think. And what I want to do to get things going is click on the ‘Launch’ button. This will take me to my course and then I’ll be presented with the User License Agreement.
I’m going to go ahead and accept that. And now we are on the ‘Create Your Plan’ page. There’s a few notes here. It just sort of describes what you need to know about the course. And here it explains having a solid study plan. And that’s what we’re about to do.
We’re about to set up our exam planner, walk you through the studying part of it. You’ll have a Syllabus to draw the information from Lessons and Mentoring if you ever need content related help, and then you’ll be able to assess yourself also.
There’ll be Assessments at the end of each lesson, a Test Bank, Metrics to know exactly where you stand, and a Practice exam to reinforce what you’ve already learned. From this point, we’re going to create a plan. But I think I’ll leave it for the next tutorial video. I’ll see you there.
How do I generate an Exam Plan?
Speaker: This is a tutorial on how to create your Exam Plan. So, we’ve just logged into our Wiley CMAexcel course. And what we need to do at this point in time, is get started and create our plan. So, click on the button that says “Create Your Plan”. On this page, we have three steps.
Step 1, is to set our start date and our custom end date. I’m going to start today, I’m ready to get going. But if I wanted to start on a different date, there’s this little calendar to the right, and you can pick a different date to begin studying.
Let’s go back, today’s my day, and then the custom end date. I need to select the day that I want to end my studying, how far I want to study out. I’m going to do a couple months here. Let’s do October 31st. There we go.
There’s my custom end date. Now that I’ve set my timeline, I get under Step 2 Estimated Weekly Study Time. It looks like I’m going to be studying 2 to 4 hours a week. That works for me. On the Step 3, I need to select the days that I plan to study.
Thursday, Friday are pre-selected-those work for me but I’m also going to study through the weekend. Let’s See My Plan—that’s the next step. Click on See My Plan, and this will take you to a kind of an overview. Now, this is not your plan, actually. This is just an overview of what you’ve set up. I have 43 assignments. My test date is October 31st.
I’m going to be studying about 2 to 3 hours a week and I have a little calendar that lets me know what days I’m studying on. But we’re going to move ahead and we’re going to go to My Syllabus. This will take me to my material, my study syllabus. So, you click on that. That finalizes your exam planner and you will find yourself in your Study Syllabus. And that’s another tutorial video. See you there.
How do I use the tools in the Dashboard?
Speaker: This is a tutorial on how to use the dashboard page of your CMAexcel course. To begin with, if you at any time want to return to the dashboard, at the top here, there’s these three tabs, and this one is the Dashboard tab. And that will take you back to the dashboard page. Each time you click on it, it will always be available to you.
And if you sort of need to reorient yourself, you can click on this and you’ll be taken back to this page. So, some features of this page: to the left here, you can see the green check mark and it says, “You’re on track”. That’s good for me because I’m just starting out on the course and it tells me that I’m not behind in anything. If you do fall a little bit behind, it’ll let you know that and guide you to those particular lessons that you need to catch up on.
Your Course Progress is beneath that, you’ll be able to see your overall score, the days remaining based on the exam planner that you set up, and the assignments that you you’ve completed in a percentage. To the right, you can see your current assignment. This will be whatever assignment you are presently working on.
If you click on Go Study, it will take you to that assignment. In this case, this is the welcome assignment because I’m just starting so I have a little introduction lesson available to me. I can also locate this particular lesson here on the Assignment Timeline. It’s highlighted in light blue, and it’s Lesson Number 1. Now, a feature of this timeline is that you can just scroll ahead to various lessons and assignments, all the way to the end practice exam for the CMA exam.
We recommend not really skipping ahead. But this study, according to the timeline, our instructors have already laid this out in the best order to study to prepare for the exam. So, you start with number one and you will work your way through the timeline to the final assignment. Beneath the dashboard, the timeline, you do have a calendar available to you also.
This is another way to access the lessons. It’s a visual aid. You can scroll ahead in the calendar to various lessons. Here’s my big test day. And go back. If I click on any one of these little boxes, it will open that particular assignment, that particular lesson and I’ll be able to go directly to it. Again, we do recommend moving through these assignments in the order that they are laid out here. That’s the best way to do it.
These will turn different colors when you’ve completed them just like we see over here to the right under Course Completion. Once this assignment has been completed, for example, it will turn green. Green is completed. Red is overdue. Yellow is in progress. Skipped is a dark gray. And light gray is unattempted.
We have the yellow in progress in this bar now, because I did open up some lessons earlier and was just taking a look around. So, that’s why you see that. There are some progress but I haven’t really done anything in them yet. Over here this would show my completion level in the TBS, the Task Based Simulations. And this one, Assessment Completion, each lesson has an assessment at the end. This will show how I’m doing in those. And this is the Test Bank Completion, the Practice Exam Completion, and my overall study time.
How do I navigate the course?
Speaker: Okay. In this tutorial, I want to show examples of three ways to get to your lessons and this really comes down to your personal preference. It’s really how you further navigate to your assignments, your bite sized lessons. So, there’s three ways-the most obvious way is here on the Dashboard page. That’s the page we’re on, presently. In the middle of the page, horizontally, there’s the Assignment Timeline.
And you can see there are lessons here: Welcome, Essay Tips, Diagnostic Assessment, Financial Statements, Accounts Receivable, etc. And you can work your way chronologically, all the way to your practice exam at the end through your lessons this way.
It’s already set out in the exact order that our instructors think is the best and most efficient way to study. So, let’s just pick an example here of a lesson and how to access it. I’m going to start at one, I’m going to open it up. And that will take me into this particular lesson.
Okay. So, that’s one way to get to your lessons. Another way to get to the exact same lessons is, on the same page, in your calendar, we’ve just had– It’s just another way to access another visual aid, and some people might prefer accessing their assignments this way.
Again, here’s that first lesson I just clicked on. It’s this lesson up here in the timeline. It’s here in the calendar, and if I click on it, it takes me to the same lesson. And again, I can work through each lesson in the calendar in the same way that we work through in the timeline.
Now, there’s one other way to access your lessons. That is, you go to study and then click on Syllabus and in the Syllabus, you have the same lessons. There’s our Welcome lesson, I click on it. That’s the same one. This is the third time we’ve seen it, because we’ve seen it in the timeline, Welcome.
We’ve seen it in the calendar, Welcome here. And we see it again in the Syllabus. So, don’t get confused too much by these. I would say we’d probably advise pick one and use that as your primary method of navigating through this course.
How do I navigate through a Bite-Sized Lesson?
Speaker: This is a tutorial on how to navigate a Bite-Sized Lesson. And we’re starting from the Dashboard page here. The first thing we need to do is go to a lesson. So, down here at the Assignment Timeline, I’m just going to scroll ahead randomly and pick a lesson. Let’s do Financial Statements, number four. I’m going to click on that lesson and open it up. In this lesson, you can see that there’s some icons here at the top.
Well, what are these? These are letting you know what’s in the lesson. There’s videos. There’s a study guide material. There’s notes, flashcards, knowledge, checks, and slides. And we’ll get more into what those are in just a moment here.
Now, over here, there’s a “+” sign. Okay, I can drag supplemental content into this lesson from the supplemental material. So, here’s a little icon in here, Deep Dive Videos. Oh, those are extra videos. I want those. So, I drag those into the timeline. What’s this? Hover over it, it’ll tell you.
Oh, there’s more slides that come with this. I want those things in my assignment today, so I’m going to drag them into it. Now, why wouldn’t you drag all the material into this lesson? Well, if you’re really crunched for time, then you may not want to do these sort of supplemental aspects of a particular lesson.
So, you might leave them in this little box over here. And at any time, you know, I want to take these out, I don’t want to study those, you can move them back. So, let’s start to work our way down the page.
Here’s an overview. This is telling us in this particular assignment, these are the things that are coming up. There’s Mentoring over here to the right, I’m not going to touch on that just yet but we’ll get to that. Let’s continue down this lesson. Again, you’re just scrolling through. We’ve already put it in the best order to study.
So, by working your way down the page, you’re actually studying in the order that our instructors would recommend. The first thing you encounter after the introduction at the top here, is a video lesson, and this will be a brief lesson on the content.
This one is 13 minutes, 46 seconds long, dealing with financial statements. Beneath the lesson, the video lesson, there is study guide material. Now this is the text material that is associated with that particular video lesson above. After reading this text material, you will come to flashcards.
Now, to navigate through these, it asks a question “Name the three items an income statement measures.” Click on it, and then these are the three items. Okay? And you can flip back and you can navigate through the flashcards in this way.
So, question on this side, answer on this side. Moving further down, there’s some knowledge checks. These are just some quick true and false questions. When you click on them, it will give you the correct or incorrect answer. And moving to the bottom, here’s the slides that are associated with those video lessons that were above. Now, these are the PowerPoints from the lessons. Here’s some extra lessons, these Deep Dive Videos are additional videos that go a little bit deeper into the content if you have the time. We do recommend it if you’ve set aside enough time to study for these.
So, at the end, you can take an assessment if you’d like. This assessment, you would click on this button and it will take you there. But let’s save that for another time. Let’s scroll back up because earlier I mentioned professor mentoring. If you click on Mentoring in a lesson, it will take you to a forum in which you can post a question to your professor.
Here’s my question, CMA related, and you would type your question in this area here and submit and that will be submitted to a professor. And you can come back to this at any time to take a look and it’ll be listed here.
How do I use the Test Bank?
Speaker: This is a tutorial on how to access and use the CMAexcel Test Bank. Our first step here is to go to the Assess tab; that’s here in the upper right hand corner. When you click on that, you’ll see several options and one of these is the Test Bank, click on that option. This takes you to your CMAexcel Test Bank. Now, there’s three steps here. The first step is to select the sessions that you’d like to include in your Test Bank quiz here. So, you can uncheck anything that you don’t want to include.
In my case, I’m going to go ahead and do everything. I’m going to pull from all of these sections in Step 2, which is selecting the mode and mix of questions. I can do just TestBank questions, or I can do Lesson Assessment questions also. Lesson Assessments are the ones that are actually in the CMAexcel course. The Test Bank questions are just the ones that are from the test bank itself. There are two separate and completely different banks of questions.
I can choose between multiple choice or essay. And I can choose study mode or exam mode. In study mode, I will be given the answer right away. It will not count in study mode towards my final score. In exam mode, I will not see the answers right away and I’ll be able to review them at the end. And this will count towards my overall grade. Okay, I’m going to keep it in study mode and I’m going to do 10 questions for this little quiz here. And I’m drawing from all available questions at this time.
Now, we can also do questions you’ve not answered. But since I’m just beginning, I don’t have that yet. But later on, if I need that, that’s a great little tool. And I’ll be able to go back and find the questions that I have not answered from the lessons above and be able to take just those. Okay. So, my choices look good. I have five study sessions, 10 total questions. That’s going to take me about 20 minutes and I’ve set aside that amount of time. So, now I’m going to proceed to Take the Quiz.
How do I access and grade my essay questions?
Speaker: This is a tutorial on how to get to an essay question and how to correctly score an essay question in the CMA Excel Review Course. From our Dashboard page, click on Assess in the upper right-hand corner of the page, in the drop-down menu, choose Test Bank. Go to Step 2 in the Test Bank; that’s down here. You’ll see that there’s Question Type and Multiple Choice is selected. We don’t want that. We want to do an essay question. So, click on Essay, then go to Take Quiz. From Take Quiz, navigate to the bottom of the page. You’ll see Previous, Next, and Review, click on Next.
This is where you will put in your essay question. Based on the statement above, you will type your answer in the window below. I’m just going to put in random nothingness here; I’m just going to type some things. You, of course, would put your correct answer in here. There are a couple of really important steps here. I’ll go through this a few times. Here’s my answer. Above this, you have Cut, Copy, Paste, or Save. I’m going to click on Save. Yes, I want to lock my answer.
Now, there’s still another step here to make this score correctly. If we just went to Next at this point, we would not get a score for this. In our course, there’s the Scoring Guidelines here. You have to provide yourself with a score, based on the Reference Answer. Here it is here’s the Reference Answer. You would compare your answer to the Reference Answer, and you’re going to score yourself as unbiased as possible.
Choose a score; you can choose from zero to 100. My answer is not so great, so I’m just going to give myself a 45. Again, this is just an answer. But it’s very important to click Save Score. This is the crucial step, Save Score. That will lock in your answer. Now, you will be correctly scored on this and you can click Next. Let’s do another example quickly here. I’ve come into the Essay page, I typed my answer. I clicked Save. I clicked Continue. Judging from the Reference Answer, mine doesn’t look so good. I didn’t do so good on this one again; I’m going to give myself another low score on this one. From there, I’m going to Save Score. That’s the most important part. You saw me there; I was tempted to click on Next right away. No, don’t do that because you won’t get scored. Save your score and that will save your answer. Then you can click on Next again. There’s my answer. Save. Continue. Oh, I did great on this one, my answer compared to the Reference Answer. I’m going to give myself 100. Save Score. Save Score always and then Next
