Registering for the CFA Exam in a Different City

Due to limited testing centers and seat availability caused by the pandemic, some candidates must register for the exam in a different city. Many candidates have chosen to go this route. The CFA Institute acknowledges that this is not ideal, and it has been challenging to address this issue, but many candidates have gone through this and will continue to go through this as the pandemic evolves, local mandates change, and outbreaks of new variants occur.

Rescheduling the CFA Exam

If you have to reschedule your CFA exam

If you need to reschedule your exam to another date within your exam window, you have approximately two months after the scheduling deadline to do that. However, you will have to pay a $250 rescheduling fee. This charge was temporarily reduced to $25 for 2021 exams, but that adjusted pricing does not apply to 2022 exams. Rescheduling can be done on your CFA Program candidate tile.

If your exam gets rescheduled

If your exam needs to be rescheduled due to pandemic restrictions, weather, local situations, or another event, you will be assigned a different exam date at your same testing location. If there are no open appointments at your location, you will be rescheduled to a testing center within a 50-mile radius of your original center.

If you can’t make your rescheduled exam appointment, you can contact Prometric at 1-800-310-6402 or 443-751-4833. If your exam is cancelled because there is no test center within a 50-mile radius, you can contact CFA Institute for more options and to see if you are eligible to reschedule to another exam window.

What to Expect After Submitting the Application

Once you register for the CFA exam, you will be able to move forward with self-scheduling your exam date via your CFA Program tile.
