Basit Shajani, CFA
In 2009, Basit Founded on-line education start-up Élan Guides to help address CFA candidates’ need for better study materials. As lead writer, lecturer and curriculum developer, Basit’s unique ability to break down complex topics helped the company grow organically to be a leading global provider of CFA Program Exam prep materials. In January 2014, Elan Guides was acquired by John Wiley & Sons, Inc., where Basit continues to serve as consulting editor. Basit graduated magna cum laude from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania with majors in Finance and Legal Studies. He went on to obtain his CFA charter in 2006, passing all three levels on the first attempt. Prior to Elan Guides, Basit ran his own private wealth management business. He is a past president of the Pakistani CFA Society.
Peter Olinto, CFA, CPA (inactive), JD
Peter Olinto, CFA, CPA (inactive), JD, has taught both CPA and/or CFA Program exam review courses, live and online, for the past twenty years. While attending law school, Peter began his teaching career in the areas of SAT, LSAT, GMAT and CPA test preparation in the NYC area. Since passing the first two levels of the CFA Program exam on his first attempt, Peter has taught Levels I and II CFA Program classes in more than fifty cities around the world. Videos featuring Peter teaching Levels I and II CFA Program and/or CPA review classes have been used by more than 300 universities, hundreds of accounting and/or financial services firms, and more than 100,000 successful CFA Program and/or CPA candidates from all over the world. In addition to Peter’s CFA Program and CPA teaching experience, he has worked as an auditor for Deloitte & Touche, as a tax attorney for Ernst and Young, and later spent nearly ten years teaching law, accounting, financial statement analysis, and tax at both the graduate and undergraduate levels at Fordham University’s business school. He earned his JD degree from Fordham University School of Law in 1995.
Darren Degraaf, CFA, CPA (US), CMA, PRM
Darren Degraaf is an adjunct professor, curriculum developer, and faculty manager at Sauder School of Business at the University of British Columbia. He has taught numerous CFA Program exam courses in Europe, the Americas, and throughout Asia, covering a wide range of Level I, Level II, and Level III topics. As a practitioner, Darren was a senior manager at the Hong Kong Shanghai Banking Corporation in Vancouver, Canada. In this position, he primarily focused on reporting on the credit risk exposure of the bank’s lending portfolio as well as performing stress testing on the same. Prior to working in HSBC’s Risk Management department, Darren held various analytical and accounting positions in their Finance, Asset Management, and Insurance divisions, during his 12+ year career there. Darren holds a Bachelor of Commerce degree from the University of British Columbia in Vancouver. He is a Certified Management Accountant, a Chartered Financial Analyst charterholder, a U.S. Certified Public Accountant (Delaware), and a Professional Risk Manager.
David Hetherington, CFA
David Hetherington is the lead instructor for Wiley’s Level III CFA Program review. David began his career as an economist with the Bureau of Labor Statistics after receiving a BA in economics from Duke University, before working as an equity analyst and portfolio manager for 10 years. Subsequent to that, he served for 10 years as senior portfolio manager and Managing Director of Fixed Income at Nations Bank, where he was responsible for both fixed income securities and derivatives. David has over 30 years’ experience helping CFA Program candidates at all levels pass their exams and his vast experience, keen understanding of the CFA Program curriculum, and engaging style have earned him an international reputation for presenting the absolute best in CFA Program education and review. He has presented CFA Program exam preparation classes all over the world and served as national CFA Program instructor at Stalla for over 15 years, winning the instructor of the year award multiple times. Prior to joining Wiley, David was CFA Level III Manager and Vice President at Kaplan Schweser. His passions include downhill skiing, cycling, and explaining difficult material in a practical manner.
Chris Ansell, CFA, MBA, MSc
Chris is an experienced financial professional in financial analysis, equity valuation and operations. He is Senior Lecturer and Course Director MSc Global Finance at Coventry University London and Visiting Fellow at Cranfield University, UK . Chris has many years of experience as a Module Leader of Masters level courses in Portfolio Management, Corporate Finance, Investment Banking, Valuation, Entrepreneurial Finance, Corporate Financial Strategy, Investment Banking, Private Equity and Venture Capital including post-grad courses at BPP and the University of Hertfordshire Business School. He has also designed several in-company Finance programs. Chris has been working in Equity Markets for nearly two decades in both the UK and the US; previous roles include Senior Equity Analyst covering Europe and North America at a leading international investment bank, Nomura, and Investor Relations Manager at BT. He has also been Head of Finance at an entrepreneurial start-up. Chris consults on corporate finance to a number of small and international clients.
Stuart Jackaman, CFA, CAIA, FRM
Based in the UK, Stuart has helped hundreds of London’s finance professionals pass their finance exams working for Kaplan Financial and, before that, BPP Professional Education. Before BPP, Stuart gained 10+ years experience in London, where he worked primarily in the fund management for Close Investments with a focus on portfolio management and equity trading, and has experience in hedge funds, derivatives and fixed income. Stuart teaches SII certificates in Regulations, Securities, and Derivatives, all levels of the CFA, CAIA and IMC Programs and a wide range of financial product courses. Stuart also teaches master’s level courses in statistics. He graduated with a degree in Mathematics from Pembroke College Oxford University in 1996.
