Help & FAQs

The courses offered as part of this program are provided by the University of North Alabama (UNA). UNA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and School (SACS) and the UNA College of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Some of the technical material that is part of the Wiley CPAexcel Course has been licensed for use in these UNA courses. However, the development of the course offerings and the assessment and mentoring in the course is provided by UNA faculty members. If you have questions about the program, contact the Program Director, Dr. Mark Lawrence, at

Thank you for enrolling in the UNA Accounting Career Preparation Program. As a first step, we recommend viewing the ACPP Welcome Video, which discusses important preliminary course information.

Since the courses in the program run on the same platform as the full Wiley CPAexcel Course, the Wiley CPAexcel Resources section will be helpful in orienting you to your online course.

Are the courses recognized by the State Boards of Accountancy toward the 150 hour requirement?

UNA is an accredited university that has been offering high-quality accounting courses for many years. We have also been offering on-line courses similar to those in the Accounting Career Preparation Program since 2008. To the best of our knowledge our accounting courses have always been accepted by states when evaluating credentials for meeting the requirements to sit for the CPA Exam.*

However, every state has different requirements and the specific courses needed by individuals vary based on previous coursework taken. Therefore, make sure you check the requirements for the state where you plan to sit for the CPA Exam if you have any questions. See for a listing of State Boards of Accountancy websites or Wiley CPAexcel’s State Board Requirements Section for details.

*The state of New York recently indicated that these courses can be counted toward the business hours needed to sit for the exam in New York, but not the accounting hours.

Are these courses academically accredited and thus transferrable to other universities?

Yes. UNA is accredited by the Southern Association of Colleges and School (SACS) and the UNA College of Business is accredited by the Accreditation Council for Business Schools and Programs (ACBSP). Your course grade will be made available on an official UNA transcript.

Will I be enrolled at UNA as part of this program?

Yes. You will be officially enrolled at UNA but not as part of a degree program.

Are international students eligible to sit for the CPA Exam?

Yes. However, if you have been educated outside of the United States, you must take special steps to apply for the CPA Exam. First, you must choose one of the fifty-four U.S. states and other jurisdictions in which to apply. Each state has different requirements in terms of citizenship, state residency, educational prerequisites and work experience. Trying to select the state that best matches your qualifications is time-consuming and costly if you do it on your own. In addition, you need to make sure you are choosing the correct UNA courses to qualify to sit for the CPA Exam. We encourage you to consult with Wiley CPAexcel’s International State Selection Experts before registering for a UNA course(s).
