Some of the key features Wiley offers include:
What One CPA Candidate Has to Say about Wiley vs. Roger
“I told my professor: ‘Your CPAexcel is the closest thing to the CPA exam that I’ve taken.’ I mean, it is an excellent preparer course. Their videos break down the learning in bite-sized pieces, which works great because there’s just so much to learn. “JC Johnson, CPA
“I knew after taking that class I was going to be using Wiley to study for my CPA. I told my professor that I’d never had a course that I felt so confident, and I’ve only been in this class for eight weeks. I mean, it’s insane!” JC Johnson, CPA
“I’ve used Roger’s CPA material. I’ve used Becker. I’ve used CPA Ninja. I’ve tried different ones that people told me to use. However, Wiley is the closest thing to the CPA exam that I’ve taken,” JC Johnson, CPA

View the CPA Exam Review Comparison Grid below and you’ll see that Wiley CPA has better features, more support, and more practice questions and task-based simulations than Roger.
Wiley has three test prep package tiers you can choose from while Roger just has two. Roger’s Elite-Ultimate package is comparable in services to Wiley’s Platinum package, but Roger’s course clocks in at a whopping $500 more. Roger’s Premier package is the bare-bones basics of test prep and doesn’t include access to the course until you pass (which is included in all Wiley packages). And Wiley offers an Ultimate Mentorship bundle for candidates looking for additional support via personal mentor sessions and 1-on-1 tutoring.
More services and features are built into Wiley’s courses than into Roger’s. And unlike Roger, Wiley gives you course repeats and free updates until you pass the exam. So, regardless of which package you go with, Wiley comes out on top in terms of value, cost, quality, features, and material.
Daniel Herman, CPA researched pricing and materials for other CPA exam test prep providers and found that Wiley was the best value.
“I had familiarity with the Wiley product because my college accounting classes used Wiley materials. I felt like the system taught me extremely well. I researched the prices of the materials and the prices of the competition and decided to go with Wiley because of my familiarity with the system and my confidence in the Wiley package,” said Daniel.
Both Wiley and Roger include free software and content updates, but only Wiley features unlimited access on all its packages until you pass the exam.
In addition, Wiley’s innovative education technology won the 2021 SIIA CODiE Award for Best College and Career Readiness Solution. This award recognizes Wiley’s innovative FocusMe technology, which provides personalized features including a highly customizable study planner, adaptive review, and content recommendations. Wiley’s FocusMe technology makes your study time as efficient as possible by helping you focus on your weak areas.
Here’s what using Wiley’s adaptive review technology looks like.
With Wiley’s Adaptive Review technology that helps maximize your study time so you feel confident on exam day, Wiley is the winner for technology and software.
Each of Wiley CPA’s review courses comes with unlimited access and updates until you pass. While Roger’s Elite-Ultimate Package comes with unlimited access and updates, Roger’s Premium package only provides access to software and updates for 18 months (excluding certain features).
Because Wiley offers unlimited course repeats until you pass on all packages with no exceptions, and Roger CPA review only offers this benefit on its Elite-Ultimate package, the winner here is Wiley.
All of Wiley’s courses come with more than 12,000 multiple-choice practice questions, which is more than any other provider, including Roger, Surgent, and Becker CPA Review. Wiley is known for its practice materials not only because of the quantity of materials but also the quality. Wiley’s CPA experts have clearly put a lot of time into crafting practice questions that resemble the real CPA exam.
Wiley’s 12,000+ CPA multiple-choice questions (MCQs), including AICPA release questions from previous CPA Exams, provide detailed explanations for right and wrong answers. All Wiley packages also include more than 500 task-based simulations and written communications questions. Because of this, Wiley has the most popular CPA Test Bank on the market, and it is continuously updated.
JC Johnson, CPA felt like the quality of Wiley’s practice questions really made a difference.
“I think the starkest difference to me is just the facts, the concepts. CPAexcel makes it easier to understand. And the example questions, which I’m sure are old CPA exam questions, make studying more effective,” JC said.
Roger provides 6,000 practice questions and hundreds of task-based simulations, so Wiley definitely has the edge on Roger for CPA practice questions.
Wiley’s Flashcards help reinforce important topics and ensure you understand key testable information. Plus, they’re convenient for studying on the go, especially since Wiley offers digital flashcards on the Wiley CPA companion mobile app. All Wiley packages include more than 4,000 digital flashcards and 1,000 printed and curated flashcards.
Roger only provides you flashcards with its Elite-Ultimate package, not with its Premier package. So, if flashcards are important to you, opt for Wiley.
Wiley CPA review courses are in an online format in which you can study on your own time. All courses also include live virtual classes that are available on-demand. Need to study offline? No problem. Wiley lets you.
Roger is also offered in an online, self-study format. Some of Roger’s key features, like flashcards and unlimited access until you pass, are only offered on their most expensive package, while Wiley includes some of the most coveted features in every course tier.
Some Wiley features include:
If you want more personalized attention, Wiley also offers:
Wiley is known for its short, highly digestible bite-sized lessons. So, if you’re looking to maximize your study time, Wiley is the winner here. The quick, bite-sized lessons are built to be completed in 30 to 45 minutes, which means you can give your full attention while covering quick in-depth topics.
One incredibly helpful and unique feature Wiley offers on all its course packages is Ask an Instructor. The Ask an Instructor feature lets you ask CPA-review questions that a CPA instructor responds to within 24 to 48 hours.
Task-based simulations are incredibly important for getting you ready for exam day because they use case studies to help you test your understanding. Wiley provides more than 500 task-based simulations while Roger only offers a few hundred. The task-based simulations are all in the Prometric interface you will be seeing on exam day, so with the high number of questions in the actual interface you will see, Wiley beats Roger.
Wiley CPA practice exams replicate the real CPA exam, so when it comes to test day, you’ve already seen the format and tested yourself on similar questions in a timed environment. Every package includes two weighted practice exams, as well as unlimited generated practice exams, and you receive your results in real time.
Wiley has live virtual and on-demand video lectures that are taught by leading educators with contributions from experts and peers. They also offer deep-dive lecture videos for difficult CPA topics—a feature that Roger does not have.
While Roger is known for entertaining and highly animated video lectures, JC Johnson, CPA says he was more motivated by Wiley video lectures.
“Not that CPAexcel didn’t have a sense of humor about it. Don’t get me wrong. I love to laugh as much or more than most people probably. But when it comes to exam time, nobody’s laughing.
“Wiley’s CPAexcel is more like, ‘Let’s instruct you on how to be successful,” says JC. “Honestly, Wiley has given me motivation to actually go sit again for the exam, when I never thought that would ever happen.”
After comparing the features and strengths and weaknesses of Wiley vs. Roger, Wiley is the clear overall winner and the best course.
