No substitution, assignment or transfer of prize permitted, except by Sponsor, who reserves the right to substitute a prize or prize component with another of comparable or greater value. Winner is responsible for all taxes and fees associated with prize receipt and/or use.
Eligibility Details: The Scholarship is open only to legal residents of the 50 States of the United States of America and the District of Columbia who are 18 years of age or older at the time of entry. Employees, officers and representatives of Sponsor and its related companies and each of their respective officers, directors, employees, shareholders, and agents (collectively, “Scholarship Entities”), as well as the immediate family (spouse, parents, siblings, and children) and household members of each such individual (whether related or not) are not eligible. Subject to all federal, state and local laws and regulations. Void in Puerto Rico, Guam, the U.S. Virgin Islands and where prohibited by law. To qualify to win one of the six Wiley CPAexcel scholarships, applicant must be an actively enrolled full or part-time college student taking at least one accounting course (3 semester hours or equivalent). Wiley CPAexcel requires winners to provide proof of student status prior to claiming their scholarship. Winners who have previously purchased a Wiley CPAexcel CPA Exam review course and are subsequently selected as a scholarship winner will receive a full refund equal to the cost of their original course purchase order minus any applicable shipping charges.
Agreement to Official Rules: By participating in the Scholarship, each entrant unconditionally agrees to and accepts these Official Rules and the decisions of Sponsor, which are final and binding in all matters related to the Scholarship.
Application Process: Entrance application submissions shall be made through the Accounting Student Scholarship Program entry form and must include first and last name (as it appears in school records), email address, state/province and country of residence, university name, degree sought, graduation date and anticipated date range to sit for the CPA Exam. By providing this, scholarship candidates agree to opt in to Wiley CPAexcel’s confidential mailing list thereby receiving informational emails about the CPA Exam, Wiley CPAexcel product offers and the scholarship winner announcements.
Recipient Selection Process: The drawing will take place on or about December 15 for the Fall Scholarship program and on or about May 15 for the Spring Scholarship program. The Wiley CPAexcel scholarship will be selected through a random drawing conducted from among all eligible entries received in accordance with these official rules by Sponsor, whose decisions as to the administration of the Scholarship and the selection of potential winners are final and binding. Potential winners will be notified by email and must accept the prize, sign and return the affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release and comply with all other requirements of these Rules within seven (7) business days of notification by email. Failure to respond within allocated time may result in forfeiture of scholarship and an alternate potential winner will be selected from the remaining eligible entrants. If a potential winner cannot be contacted, prize is returned as undeliverable, or fails to sign and return the affidavit of eligibility and liability/publicity release within the required time period, or fails to comply with any other requirements set forth in these rules, potential winner forfeits prize. In the event that a potential winner is disqualified for any reason, Sponsor will award his/her prize to an alternate potential winner. Odds of winning depend on the number of eligible entries received.
Wiley CPAexcel Scholarship Redemption Policy: Notified winners must provide academic status prior to receiving scholarship prize. Redeem your Wiley CPAexcel Scholarship for specific instructions.
Cash scholarship winners will need to provide a copy of current enrollment and a completed federal tax Form W-9 within 14 days of award notification prior to receiving cash scholarship. ( Specific instructions can be found here.) Once completed, a check for the cash prize amount will be sent to the address provided on the Form W-9
Wiley CPAexcel requests that grand prize winners provide a short testimonial statement and digital photo to be used on the Wiley CPAexcel scholarship winners’ page, blog and social media pages along with Wiley CPAexcel external promotional material within seven (7) days of the award notification. This is an optional request and Wiley CPAexcel is always grateful to be able to showcase our winners. However, Wiley CPAexcel is not required to use such material and may edit such material in its discretion.
Publicity: Except where prohibited, participation in the Scholarship constitutes winner’s consent to Sponsor’s use of winner’s name, likeness, voice, opinions, biographical information, hometown and state for promotional purposes in any media without further notice, payment or consideration.
General Conditions: Sponsor reserves the right to cancel or modify the Scholarship if fraud, technical failures or any other factor beyond Sponsor’s reasonable control impairs the integrity of the Scholarship, as determined by Sponsor in its sole discretion. In such event, Sponsor reserves the right to award the prize at random from among the eligible entries received up to the time of the impairment. Sponsor reserves the right in its sole discretion to disqualify any individual it finds to be tampering with the entry process or the operation of the Scholarship or to be acting in violation of these Official Rules, or in an unsportsmanlike or disruptive manner. Any attempt by any person to deliberately damage any web site or undermine the legitimate operation of the Scholarship is a violation of criminal and civil law, and, should such an attempt be made, Sponsor reserves the right to seek damages from any such person to the fullest extent permitted by law. Sponsor’s failure to enforce any term of these Official Rules shall not constitute a waiver of that provision.
Release:By entering this Scholarship sweepstakes, entrant agrees to release and hold harmless, Scholarship Entities from and against any claim or cause of action arising out of participation in the Scholarship or receipt or use of any prize.Limitations of Liability: Sponsor, its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates, employees, and agents shall have no responsibility or liability (including, but not limited to, liability for any property loss, damage, personal injury or death) in connection with: (i) participation in this Scholarship; (ii) human error; (iii) technical failures of any kind, including but not limited to the malfunctioning of any computer, cable, network, hardware or software, delay in operation or transmission, communications line failure, technology outage, theft or destruction or unauthorized access to, or alteration of entries, whether caused by the sender or any of the equipment or programming associated with or utilized in the Scholarship; (iv) the unavailability or inaccessibility of any transmissions or telephone or Internet service; (v) unauthorized human intervention in any part of the entry process or the Scholarship; (vi) electronic or human error which may occur in the administration of the Scholarship or the processing of entries; (vii) acceptance/possession, use/misuse, and/or defects of prize or prize component; or (viii) any injury or damage to persons or property, including but not limited to entrant’s computer, hardware or software, which may be caused, directly or indirectly, in whole or in part, from entrant’s participation in the Scholarship. Entrants further agree to indemnify and hold harmless the Sponsor, its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates, employees, and agents from any and all liability resulting or arising from the Scholarship, to release all rights to bring any claim, action or proceeding against the Sponsor, its parent company, subsidiaries, affiliates, employees, and agents.
Disputes: Entrant agrees that: (i) any and all disputes, claims and causes of action arising out of or connected with the Scholarship sweepstakes, or any prizes awarded, other than the administration of the Scholarship or the determination of winners shall be resolved individually, without resort to any form of class action, and exclusively by the United States District Court for the Southern District of New York or the appropriate New York State Court located in the borough of Manhattan; (ii) any and all claims, judgments and awards shall be limited to actual out-of-pocket costs incurred, including costs associated with entering the Scholarship but in no event attorneys’ fees; and (iii) under no circumstances will entrant be permitted to obtain awards for and entrant hereby waives all rights to claim punitive, incidental and consequential damages and any other damages, other than for actual out-of-pocket expenses, and any and all rights to have damages multiplied or otherwise increased. SOME JURISDICTIONS DO NOT ALLOW THE LIMITATIONS OR EXCLUSION OF LIABILITY FOR INCIDENTAL OR CONSEQUENTIAL DAMAGES, SO THE ABOVE MAY NOT APPLY TO YOU. All issues and questions concerning the construction, validity, interpretation and enforceability of these Official Rules, or the rights and obligations of the entrant and Sponsor in connection with the Scholarship, shall be governed by, and construed in accordance with, the laws of the State of New York, without giving effect to such State’s conflict of law rules.
Winners List: Scholarship sweepstakes results and a copy of these Official Rules may be obtained by sending a self-addressed, stamped envelope to Wiley Efficient Learning P.O. Box 4223, Sedona, AZ 86340. Requests must be within 60 days of the end of the scholarship drive.
