We Asked Around … Here Are Some Great Beginner Tips
1) Get Outside! It’s Summertime, After All
This one is hopefully simple for you. Do some form of movement outside. Just walking or light jogging for 30 to 60 minutes whenever you can—at the beach, around your neighborhood, or just around your office if you’re trapped inside—can make an remarkable difference, both in your waistline and in your cognitive memory.
You can substitute any number of summer activities here, from beach volleyball to running in the park to playing Frisbee with friends to taking your dog for long walks. Really the form of exercise isn’t important. Just get moving—and do it often. The more often you move, the better.
2) Weights Are Not Evil
So far, we’ve focused more on cardio-centric exercises. But don’t discount the value of a regular weight-lifting session. Adding two or more regular weights sessions to your walking/running/biking routine is the way to go (according to Mayo Clinic ) for the best results.
Just remember: Friends don’t let friend skip Leg Day.
3) Just Like Studying, It Always Helps to Have a Buddy
Having a friend share in your journey can be a big motivator to exercise regularly. It’d be great if you could find a fellow CPA candidate and then also use your exercise time as a way of relieving stress from all your studying.
Some exercises to get you started on the way to better health and a higher CPA Exam score include:
- Swimming (preferably at the beach!)
- Team Sports like volleyball or touch football
- Golf (only if you walk the course)
- Fitness Classes at Your Local Gym, e.g. spinning, yoga, Zumba
A half hour here, 20 minutes there a few times a week and you’ll be on your way to better cognitive health and a higher CPA Exam score.
